Pour l’amour d’Haiti
Posted in News on February 24th, 2010 by raj – Be the first to commentRanelagh Arts Festival raised Eur 3,000 for Haiti on Monday night. Thank you everyone!
Terry Connaughton, artistic director, would like to share the following message with you.
It was absolutely heroic and so unselfish of so many artists to come out and support us on a Monday night in the midst of a wicked winter.
Right from Julie Dillon and The Bold Boys(what a great young singer and band) through to Chris Meehan and Anna Leddy and the RedNecks the night seemed to fly by which to me is always the litmus test of a good gig.
And Jay..s when you think about it we had more acts than a week of The Theatre Royal.
All our Guests preformed as if they were playing ‘for there lives’.
I must say it was amazing to such a large audience paying such rapt attention to poetry (take a bow Tony Gilmore) at Midnight…. See more I thought all the poets were FANTABULOUS- Charles Crockatt spoke so eloquently, Brendan Ellis brought tears to the eye, Ronan Sheehan was spellbinding and as Brian Maguire, our brilliant host for the night said, Eamon Carr and Daniel Figgis ‘made’ poetry for the 21st century. Of course our old friend Tony ‘The Cowboy Poet’ Gilmore never lets us down.
Most of all I must thank ‘our crowd’,The Ranelagh Arts Festival audience, who paid so much attention to the poets, applauded so rapturously all the singers and musicians, were so generous, well mannered and good natured that for me and all the committee it’s such a pleasure to put on events for them. Never a drop of drink spilt or an angry bad mannered word exchanged. They were also STARS of the night and they must be the best audience in the WORLD.
Thanks so much EVERYONE.
